What Causes Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is usually a symptom of an underlying condition. We will complete a comprehensive exam and review your medical history to determine what might be causing it and then use that information to formulate a customized treatment. While there isn’t a cure for this condition, there is hope. Therapies have been developed to help clients like you.
Causes of Tinnitus
- Age-related hearing loss
- Stress
- Depression
- Exposure to loud noises at work
- Buildup or blockages of earwax
- Head or neck injuries
- Meniere’s disease
- Abnormal bone growth in ears
- Benign tumors of the cranial nerve
What Treatments are Available?
New technologies are being developed to help the millions of people affected by tinnitus. At Expert Hearing Solutions, we will find an appropriate treatment for the cause of your tinnitus. We have had success with acoustic therapy, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) and Residual Inhibition Therapy (RIT). Acoustic therapy is the most common and utilizes white noise and noise simulation therapies to drown out the ringing, buzzing and other uncomfortable noise.
Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)
Also known at habituation therapy, TRT has grown in popularity and involves retraining your brain to perceive tinnitus differently. The thinking behind this approach is that approximately 75% of people with tinnitus are not bothered by it. Their brains simply file it away as another noise. The goal of TRT therapy is for you to be able to process the noise so it doesn’t bother you or at least not as much as before.
